Next Meeting

UPDATE

Thanks to all who came to the town hall last night to make one of the best meetings yet possible. We had 23 people including a lot of new faces!

For those who couldn’t attend, Aaron talked about South Carolina’s Environment-based Education School Network that is being used with great success in several middle schools throughout the state. We also discussed changing our focus to a middle school or possibly one serving grades 4-8. A lot more ground was covered than I can recap in this email but I’ll work on getting minutes together for anyone interested. At next week’s meeting we will get the official steering committee in place so it’s not too late to take a leadership role.

UPDATE – Community Meeting Rescheduled

The community meeting scheduled for the 15th has been rescheduled at the request of the Concerned Citizen’s Group. The meeting will now be held on Thursday, July 22nd, at 7:00. The meeting will still be held at Lincoln High School. Please email caperomainschool@yahoo.com with any questions.

Community Meeting

Please join us for a community meeting at Lincoln High School on Thursday, July 15th, at 7:00. Aaron Baldwin will give a presentation outling what a charter school is and why we feel a charter school would be such a great addition to our communities. Want more information? Email us at caperomainschool@yahoo.com!

Community Rally at Bulls Bay Supply 3/20/10

Cape Romain Environmental Charter School

The Cape Romain Environmental Charter School Steering Committee is currently seeking input from parents of McClellanville, Awendaw and the surrounding areas.  Help guide the formation of a free, public charter school with an environmental emphasis, to serve the entire community.

We would like to invite everyone to a Community Rally for the Cape Romain Charter School.  We will meet at:

Bulls Bay Supply

(on Hwy 17 at the flashing light)

11 – 1, Saturday 03/20/10

There will be hotdogs, drinks and baked goods as well as information available about our efforts to date to form a new school to serve the entire area.  Come out and learn more or just show your support.   Please  spread the word, everyone is welcome.  Anyone interested in helping with the event please contact us at: caperomainschool@yahoo.com

Thanks for your interest and hope to see you there.

Sincerely,

Cape Romain Charter School Steering Committee

Thanks for Spreading the Word

Thanks to Sherry Browne, Erin Browne, Hugh Scott, Leigh Scott, John Scott, Aaron Baldwin and Marina Baldwin for manning booths this past Saturday.  We are really starting to get the word out.  We made some terrific contacts and signed up some new potential students.  We will have more opportunities to help in the near future.  Thanks again.

Cape Romain School to Partner with Clemson

We are pleased to announce that from our preliminary meetings, we have had enough interest to determine that there is a definite desire from the community to pursue a public school charter.  We currently have just under 100 students that have already signed up.  This is a terrific start but we still need more families, so please spread the word.  We will have volunteers manning booths at the Seewee Outpost, Bulls Bay Supply, McClellanville Dollar General and other locations in the near future to help get the word out.

We also have exciting news that we can now announce.  Clemson University wishes to partner with us to help develop and implement our environmental curriculum.  This is just the first of many partnerships that we feel we will be able to make because of our unique location between the Francis Marion National Forest and the Cape Romain Wildlife Refuge.

If you are interested in helping with the formation of the school or have children that you feel would benefit from a new school in the McClellanville and Awendaw area, please visit the Contact page and fill out the questionnaire.

Awendaw Meeting 2/18/10

The Awendaw meeting has been scheduled.  Anyone interested in finding out more about the proposed charter school please plan to attend.  The meeting will be held at the Awendaw Town Hall; 6971 Doar Rd; 7:00PM Thursday 2/18/10.

McClellanville Public Meeting on 2/11/10

The first public meeting is scheduled for February 11th, 2010 at 7:00 at the McClellanville Town Hall; 405 Pinckney Street.  A second meeting in Awendaw will be scheduled soon.

We would like to find the level of interest from parents in the community, collect information about the needs of the families to help shape the school as we go forward.  Please spread the word and hope to see you there.
